Beginning in 1994, older "legacy" F/A-18A and "C" models began replacing the aging and over stressed A-4's in service with Top Gun. Also in 1994 Top Gun reformed and moved to Fallon, Nevada to become the Naval Fighter Weapon School, (NFWS). These "Aggressor" Hornets were repainted in several variations of Middle Eastern and Soviet Block colors. Some of these aircraft retained their TPS (Tactical Paint Scheme) of overall light and dark gray. The mission of NFWS to provide dissimilar air combat training to fleet aircrews is crucial to all Navy/Marine fighter pilots to keep their dogfighting skills sharp.
